Former cricket umpire Dickie Bird says he is looking forward to meeting up with Prince Charles in Barnsley later this month.
Dickie describes the Prince of Wales as a ‘charming chap’.
The royal makes his first visit to the town on Tuesday, January 24 – and he will meet Dickie at the umpire’s statue next to St Mary’s Church.
Said Dickie: “I’ve met the Prince before, when I received an invite to Buckingham Palace.
“It was a reception for sports personalities and I found him to be a very charming chap, very nice and easy to talk to.”
The Prince will also visit the University Campus Barnsley, where he will talk to students, before taking a tour of Wentworth Castle house and gardens.
