Little Hopefuls launched

Today sees the launch of Yorkshire Little Hopefuls at the Houghton Road Community Centre in Thurnscoe.

Paul and Michael Atwal-Brice will open the Thurnscoe Little Hopefuls group from 10am-1pm. It is a weekly support and fortnightly playgroup for children with additional needs and disabilities.

The gay couple decided to start the group after an appeal to buy wheelchairs for their two five-year-old autistic twins Levi and Lucas was so successful.
They raised more than £4,000 for the special wheelchairs so the young lads could go on a trip to Disneyland.

Michael said: “During the the appeal, when we were collecting in Tesco’s, a lot of parents in a similar situation to us wanted to know what funding help was available to them. There didn’t seem to be anywhere in the Dearne Valley they could go to help.

“We will invite a guest speaker each week from organisations like the Epilepsy Society and Social Services so people can find out what is available for their children.”

The group can be contacted on tel: 07595035596.
