There has been some great performances from Birdwell Wheelers, in both Open and Club events, in the last few days.
On Saturday Dan Taylor and Paul Heggie rode in the Drighlinghton 25 Open event near Thirsk.
Taylor recorded his second best ever time for 25 miles – of 54mins 49secs – and Heggie knocked an amazing 8mins 30secs off his previous best in recording a time of one hour three minutes.
Sunday saw Wheeler Trevor Mayne tackle his first long-distance time trial of the year after recovering from a chronic illness when he rode the Pennine CC 50 mile event at Dishforth.
Despite a delayed start due to fog, some good times were recorded due to the low wind speeds and Mayne was pleased to finish in 1h 52m 07s for 10th place.
On Tuesday, Wheeler Dan Taylor continued his great run of form by recording the fastest time of the night in Birdwell Wheelers’ 10-mile time trial on the Park Spring course.
His time of 21m 59s was enough to beat the club course record set by him a week ago by 14 seconds.
The winner on handicap on the night was Roger Bacon who recorded a personal best of 25m 26s .
This was enough to put him top of this year’s handicap competition with a total of 55 points – just three ahead of Dan Taylor and four ahead of Andy Cutts who also recorded a personal best of 24m 24s.
Fastest Stocksbridge CC rider was Stewart Smith in 22mins, followed by Ben Harvey on 22m 18s and Richard Witney on 23m 14s.
Fastest guest rider was James Colley on 24m 54s.
The next joint club event is the Club Championship 10m Time Trial on the Grimethorpe bypass on Tuesday, August 14th at 7pm. Guests are welcome.
The Sunday club run leaves from Birdwell roundabout at 9am. More details on all the above can be found at www.birdwellwheelers.org
