Stocksbridge postman Darren Gill managed to break the magical ‘hour’ mark in the Seacroft Wheelers’ 25-mile time trial.
The Birdwell Wheeler was part of a high quality field of riders to take to the course at Topcliffe near Thirsk.
On a warm and near perfect day, Darren clocked an impressive 58 mins and 3 seconds, averaging over 25mph for the race distance for the first time.
With some top time trial riders taking part, Darren was thrilled to join them in the ‘under the hour’ club – a standard many never achieve.
Elsewhere, Trevor Mayne had less luck, with his only attempt at the 100-mile distance being cancelled due to a motorcycle crash on the course.
This was then followed up with an unsuccessful veteran’s bunch race at Stainton, Doncaster the following day when he was unable to get away from the ‘peleton’ and had to settle for the minor placings in the mass sprint.
