Barnsley Ladies under 14s conceded the first goal for the third game in a row but still carried far too much firepower for Sheffield FC and recorded a 7-2 success.
It was the girls’ first ever game against Sheffield and they were three players shy of full strength but nevertheless they recovered from a lacklustre start to convincingly secure the spoils.
However, the only enjoyable thing about the early stages was the bacon sandwiches Sean Brannan had arranged!
Sheffield took the lead even before the butties had been finished on the sidelines, but Chelsea Schofield levelled matters from Brittany Sanderson’s corner, and then Courtney Craig made it 2-1.
Arianne Parnham brilliantly weaved past several Sheffield players before delivering the ball to Jasmine Hazell who in turn fed Schofield to finish off a nice move for the third goal – and the town girls went on to lead 5-1 at the break thanks to further strikes from Hazell and Parnham.
The second half was an untidy affair, although Laura Murphy’s powerful effort gave Barnsley their sixth goal.
Sheffield managed to pull one back but Barnsley had the final word through Hazell’s close range finish.
She usually gets about two goals a season so will have been thrilled to get two in one game!
