A new community centre in Barnsley will open its doors for the first time with a special event on June 7.
The Unite Community Support Centre is a joint venture between the Unite union and the National Union of Miners (NUM).
The centre will offer help and support for individuals and the community as a whole. It will allow people to:
- Learn new skills
- Gain support with welfare problems
- Campaign on welfare changes
- Gain community activist training
- Get involved with your local community
- Receive help and support in looking for work
The celebratory opening begins at 1pm on June 7 at the NUM headquarters on Huddersfield Road, Barnsley.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: “We would like to welcome as many people as possible to pop along and see all of the fantastic features that the centre offers – and how people can become involved.
“There will be a buffet, drinks and the Unite Brass Band will be playing from 1pm, so don’t be late!”
The following week there will be two large publicity events in Barnsley town centre . The Unite bus will be in Peel Square along with the ‘Street Team’ from 10am until 3pm on the 10th and 11th of June.
