Kilmarnock 0, Barnsley 1
An away win, a clean sheet and a further build up of fitness.
Barnsley’s efforts north of the border on Tuesday evening proved to be rather satisfactory.
Admittedly, the game itself was ‘nothing to write home about’, but pre-season fixtures seldom are. Oh, and then there was the fact that head coach Lee Johnson and a member of his coaching staff, Paul Heckingbottom, were unused substitutes, giving rise to the fear that, as things stand, Barnsley do not have enough players to ‘flesh out’ their squad for the League One travails to come.
But thanks to a goal from new striker Conor Wilkinson early in the second half, the Reds registered their third pre-season win out of four matches, with the other game, at Guiseley, having finished goalless.
Wilkinson headed in George Smith’s cross in the 54th minute to secure the success against the Scottish Premier League outfit.
