Michael Dugher, MP for Barnsley East, has raised fears of a winter crisis in the NHS as alarming figures show Accident and Emergency (A&E) waiting times have increased.
NHS figures show the percentage of people seen in under four hours at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has dropped from 95.4 per cent in August to 90.9 per cent in October.
Said Mr Dugher: “Barnsley Hospital and GP services are working very hard in very difficult circumstances to deliver healthcare services, and it is good news that Barnsley is performing particularly well on cancer waiting times.
“But massive cuts to local Government and changes to the NHS are making it harder for doctors and nurses to do their jobs, with an increase in the number of people waiting four or more hours to be seen in A&E.
“We need the Government to get to grips with this problem before the winter crisis in our A&E departments gets even worse.”
