Michael Dugher, MP for Barnsley East, and former Number One selling artist Feargal Sharkey, are calling on local musicians to showcase their talents at this year’s LIVE in Barnsley music festival.
The popular festival is taking place on Saturday 17th June, and applications to perform can now be made online at the LIVE in Barnsley website.
LIVE in Barnsley is a free music festival organised by local volunteers in the town centre, and showcases the diverse musical talents in the town and surrounding areas.
Mr Dugher, a patron of the festival, has performed every year since 2013 and is urging other musicians to seize the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
Feargal Sharkey, former frontman of the Undertones, famous for a string of hits including ‘Teenage Kicks’, is also patron of the Festival. He also had a successful solo career, reaching Number One with ‘A Good Heart’, before working in the industry, including as chief executive of UK Music.
Mr Dugher said: “LIVE in Barnsley is something we should be enormously proud of in Barnsley. It has become one of the most popular events of the year, attracting thousands of visitors. It is also a real showcase of talent in the Borough and the surrounding area.
“Having performed at the festival every year since it first started, I know what a tremendous opportunity it is to play in front of the local crowd.”
Feargal Sharkey added: “LIVE in Barnsley is a fantastic event and a real credit to the organisers and everyone involved. It has rightly been nominated for a number of awards and every year it gets bigger and better.
“I encourage all musicians to get involved and I hope to come along again.”
