The second week of the racing season was another successful one for Birdwell Wheelers.
On Saturday, in the North Midlands Veteran Time Trial Association (NMVTTA) 14 mile event at Cuckney, Trevor Mayne (pictured) finished 6th overall in 34m 04s which also placed him 5th on VTTA handicap.
Tom Booth in 35m 47s was a fine 14th overall and 1st Junior.
The next day saw Booth, Dan Taylor and Paul Heggie ride in the Yorkshire Cycling Federation (YCF) 10 mile event at Fairburn.
Taylor, despite suffering from a heavy cold, finished 10th in 22m 40s. Booth in 24m 06s was 22nd overall and 1st Junior while Heggie recorded a course PB in 26m 40s.
Also on Saturday John Woodhouse, Rob Parkes, Steve Myatt and Rodger Holmes rode in the 104km Three Fields Audax event.
Starting at Alfreton the route took them through Clumber Park to Bothamsall then onto Southwell before returning to Alfreton. All completed the ride in well under the time limit.
Sunday was also the date for the club’s annual 50 miles in 4 hours reliability ride. Starting at Brewers Fayre Brampton the ride followed a loop through Askern, Darrington, Purston Jaglin, Ryhill, Grimethorpe and back to the start.
The ride was completed by Roger Bacon, Rodger Holmes, John Woodhouse, Neil Addy, Phil Adams, Dave Scargill, Trevor Mayne, Rob Parkes and Steve Myatt, all within the allotted 4 hours.
This Sunday the club is running its own 110km Audax event over a flattish route out to Snaith. Entries are available on the day from 9am at Birdwell Community Centre, Rockingham Street, Birdwell. £6/£8 depending on status.
