Finnish trio’s family hit show bound for Civic

This spring, Circus Evolution brings Race Horse Company, an acclaimed company of Finnish circus artists, to The Civic with their latest hit show for families with young children.

In 2008, three fearless Finnish acrobats, Petri Tuominen, Rauli Kosonen and Kalle Lehto, set up Race Horse Company to create a new brand of uncompromising and personal contemporary circus.

Their rough-and-ready performances are based on the aesthetics of chaos, humour and surprise, leaving philosophy and thinking to the audience.

‘Around’ is their quirky new show for children of 5+ about the life of a circus troupe.

Arriving with a caravan of hobby horses, two acrobats transform an empty stage into a charming circus with the help of a band of musicians.

A monkey plays guitar, elephants and snakes are conjured out of thin air, a deep sea diver flips and twists. There is juggling, sword swallowing, hula hooping, bubble blowing and break dancing. The live soundtrack combines 80s electronica with banging buckets, guitar and baritone ukulele.

  • Around is at The Civic on Sunday 9 April at 2pm and 5pm. Tickets are £8 full price £6 concessions and £5 child.
