A former fans’ favourite has become Barnsley’s seventh major summer signing.
Winger Lloyd Isgrove, who impressed in a loan spell with the Reds during the thrilling promotion and cup-winning campaign of 2015-16, has rejoined the Oakwell Club from Premier League Southampton.
The 24-year-old (pictured) scored a vital goal in the play-off final victory over Millwall at Wembley; was an integral part of the squad that carried off the Johnston’s Paint Trophy with a win against Oxford United at the same venue; and made 27 appearances in all in what was an exceptional season.
Isgrove, who has been capped at both Under 21 and senior levels for Wales, was keen to return to Oakwell once his Saints’ contract had expired – and head coach Paul Heckingbottom was just as keen to sign him.
Speaking on the club’s official website Heckingbottom said: “Lloyd is a great lad and we are all glad to see him back at the Club for both personality and footballing reasons.
“He fitted into the group here so well last time, knows the place and is a fans favourite. Once we knew there was a possibility of this deal happening, it was a no brainer. Lloyd expressed his desire to come back here and has turned down other good offers across the Championship.”
