Barnsley have completed the season-long loan signing of Chelsea’s highly-rated 18-year-old striker Ike Ugbo.
The teenager had a prolific scoring record for the Premiership champions’ Under 23s and Under 18s sides last season, notching 23 goals in 35 appearances, taking his tally in the last three campaigns to 60.
An FA Youth Cup winner with the Stamford Bridge Club, he was also called up for the England U20s side who were champions at the Toulon Tournament this summer. He played three times and scored the winning goal with a header in the 1-0 win over Angola.
Not surprisingly he has attracted the attention of numerous Championship clubs as well as overseas, therefore it is extremely satisfying that he has been snapped up by the Reds.
Speaking on the Oakwell Club’s official website, head coach Paul Heckingbottom said: “We’re really pleased to bring one of the brightest young strikers out there to Oakwell and of course we must thank Chelsea for allowing us to do so.
“I am really excited about what Ike can bring to the team. He is a forward who has pace, height, strength and power as well as a keen eye for goal as is shown by his record.”
Meanwhile Cole Kpekawa has joined Colchester United on a permanent basis.
