Last-minute strike settles pre-season derby

Barnsley 0, Huddersfield Town 1

(Pre-season friendly)

There were promising aspects of Barnsley’s play against newly-promoted Premiership rivals at Oakwell on Saturday, but also a suggestion that goalscoring could remain a problem as they went down to the only goal of the game.

Even that did not arrive until the last minute when Steve Mounie fastened on to a hopeful long ball forward to chip Adam Davies, who had earlier made a couple of splendid saves to keep the Reds in contention.

Adam Hammill and Stefan Payne went closest for the home team in an encounter which always seemed likely to finish goalless until the Terriers’ late strike.

Barnsley’s team was:  Davies; Yiadom, MacDonald, Lindsay, Fryers; Mowatt, Moncur, Williams (Mallan), Hammill; Ugbo (Brown), Payne (Bradshaw).
