Rochdale 0, Barnsley 2
Second half strikes from Ike Ugbo earned victory for the Reds over determined opposition at Spotland in their penultimate pre-season friendly.
There was a brisk start to the encounter, with Lloyd Isgrove just off target for the Reds, Nick Townsend saving from Brad Inman at the other end and the visiting ‘keeper then making a superb save from a fierce drive from Callum Camps.
Rochdale were certainly having the better of the exchanges at this stage but the Reds came more into the picture as half-time approached and Adam Jackson had a header cleared off the line.
Barnsley head coach Paul Heckingbottom rang the changes for the second half, with Angus MacDoanld, Andy Yiadom, George Moncur and Ike Ugo replacing Jackson, Zeki Fryers, Brown and D’Almeida.
After Rochdale had a goal disallowed for offside and Bradshaw was foiled by the home ‘keeper in a one-on-one situation the Reds made another change, Alex Mowatt going on for Joe Williams and he had been on the pitch only five minutes when his side took the lead.
Adam Hammill, Yiadom, Moncur and Lloyd Isgrove combined brilliantly to et up a heading opportunity for Bradshaw and when his header was only parrtied by goalkeeper Lillis, Ugbo pounced to net from the rebound.
The same player made sure of victory with his second goal in the dying seconds, rounding Lillis to steer the ball into the untenanted net after being put through by Moncur.
Barnsley’s team was: Townsend; McCarthy (B.Williams), Jackson (MacDonald), Lindsay (Pinnock), Fryers (Yiadom); Hammill, Sessi (Moncur), J.Williams (Mowatt), Isgrove (Mallan); Brown (Ugbo), Bradshaw.
