Oakwell Club in take-over talks with Chinese billionaire

It has been confirmed that Barnsley Football Club is involved in take-over talks with Nice’s Chinese billionaire majority shareholder Chien Lee, whose consortium includes US businessman Paul Conway.

Sources in France suggest that the Oakwell Club is seen as a bid to expand the consortium’s portfolio.

It is thought that Lee, who made his fortune with hotel firm Plateno Group and investment company NewCity Capital, is looking for a complete buy-out, although Barnsley’s current cancer-struck owner Patrick Cryne (pictured), who has been the key figure in keeping the club afloat over the last 13 years, could retain a small percentage.

It is believed that funds would be made available for the Reds to emerge as serious contenders for promotion to the Premier League.
