Barnsley Ladies Rugby team picked up the award for Women’s Team of the Year at last night’s Crabbie’s National Rugby Awards at Twickenham Stadium.
This was the second year the team had been shortlisted. Last year they were unsuccessful, but with another season unbeaten in the league and back to back promotions under their belts, the judging panel, comprising former England players Jeremy Guscott, Catherine Spencer and Jeff Probyn, along with rugby journalist and author Nick Cain, thought the Shaw Laners fully deserved the award this time
Barnsley Captain Alix Taylor was also shortlisted in the Women’s Player of the Year category but lost out to York RI player Kirsty Parr.
Barnsley are playing their first friendly of the season at Shaw Lane on Sunday (3rd September) against Ashfield Ladies, kicking off at 3.00pm, and the trophy will be on display.
