Barnsley 3, Derby County 2
(Caraboa Cup, second round)
Adam Hammill’s list of great Barnsley goals goes on.
The mercurial winger, who scored two memorable goals at Wembley in the same season to earn the Reds not only cup glory but helped them to promotion, grabbed a late winner to book his club another trip to the home of English football.
Hammill’s curling effort from outside the penalty area finally put paid to the Rams of Derby County and secured a trip to Wembley to face Tottenham Hotspur in round three.
Both sides had made changes from the weekend – the visitors no less than 11 – yet they twice led.
Johnny Russell put them in front and although Reds defender Adam Jackson levelled matters with his first goal for the Oakwell outfit, Mason Bennett put the Rams back in front with a close-range finish.
Tom Bradshaw brought Barnsley level in the second period, before Hammill took possession from a short corner in the dying minutes and curled in another cracker.
