Nineteen-years-old midfielder Jared Bird has signed a two year contract extension with Barnsley Football Club.
Bird joined the Reds in the summer of 2016 after impressing in a trial period with the Under 23s and he has since captained that team on numerous occasions.
He has forced himself into first team reckoning this season and was outstanding in the third round Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham Hotpsur at Wembley.
He is quoted on the club’s website as saying: “I think I’ve grown from being an Under 23 player to a first team one. That’s a step forward and I now have to keep looking further forward.”
Commented head coach Paul Heckingbottom: “Jared has forced himself into the first team, having been on the bench and making starts. He’s doing well, so we’ve given him a plan and some security. It’s a reward for his hard work.”
