Exciting month of shows coming up at The Civic

The Civic in Barnsley continue to bring the best in contemporary art and theatre this New Year, starting with some new films, comedy and exhibitions in January.

For example, there will be an early screening of Last Laugh by John Godber, a story that follows a college lecturer, Martin Dawson, played by Nick Figgis, and his hope to escape from obscurity by having a screenplay made into a film. Including scenes set in many familiar places such as The Peaks, Whitby and Hull.

A Civic spokesperson said: “It is a gritty northern drama with a whole lot of soul, a universal story that resonates with audiences illustrating the sometimes confusing and conflicted nature of love of all kinds.”

Last Laugh will be on 19 January 2018 at 7:30pm. Tickets are £10 and £8 concessions.

Next is is a case of “Bonjour” as the audience is invited to “Be our Guest” at the highly anticipated Disney’s Beauty and The Beast Sing-a-Long-a screening, to join in a brand new adaptation of Disney’s iconic fairy-tale with on-screen lyrics. Each guest  gets a goodie bag of props to help them to be fully involved, and fancy dress is encouraged!

Sing-a-long-a Beauty and the Beast will be on 20 January at 2:00pm. Tickets are £16 and £11 child

Art and music fans alike will also have a last chance to see the Best Art Vinyl: 12 Years on 12 Inches, here in the heart of Barnsley. This free exhibition contains more than 225 vinyl record covers from the last 12 years and showcases some of the best in design, photography, drawing and many other mediums..

Best Art Vinyl: 12 Years on 12 Inches is on from 11 November 2017 to 20 January 2018. Free admission.

At the end of January Toby Foster (pictured) returns with the first of four more comedy club sets. The Civic supporter and Barnsley-born BBC Radio Sheffield presenter hosts some of the best comedians from the UK and international circuit. His Last Laugh Comedy Club promises to have the audience roaring with laughter.

Toby Foster’s Last Laugh Comedy Club will be on 27 January at 8:00pm. Tickets are £12.
