Walk-over increases Barnsley Ladies’ lead at the top of the table

Barnsley’s scheduled home game with Sefton last Saturday was called off the previous day because the visitors were unable to field a front row.

The rules state that the match could have been played with uncontested scrums, but Sefton would forfeit the match, and, because of that they elected not to travel.

Therefore, as the match was classed as a walkover the return fixture at Sefton on 4th February will now be played at Shaw Lane.

The Shaw Lane team were due to play Sefton in the Junior cup two years ago and their opponents also pulled out of that match due to not being able to field a front row.

Barnsley are now eight points clear at the top of the league but have played a game more than second placed Birkenhead.

Their next match is at home to Southport on Sunday.

An Inner Warrior event is being staged before the game. It is open to all girls aged 11 – 17 as well as women over 18.

The session will be delivered by an accredited coach alongside Barnsley Ladies themselves.

There will be two sessions running alongside each another with split girls and women split (age accordingly). Participants are invited to stay and watch the match afterwards. Registration is at 11.45am.
