The director of a South Yorkshire public relations and media training agency is holding a free DIY PR masterclass.
Kate Betts, a journalist turned-media consultant who launched Capital B Media in 2006, will offer expert advice in the workshop at Wakefield Business Conference on October 3.
Kate said: “I will look at the many different aspects of PR, including press releases, video and social media, and how they can play a vital role in promoting your business.
“I hope those who attend will pick up some key skills and have the confidence to implement the basics of PR to raise their profile, bring in more customers and ultimately boost the local economy.”
Before switching to the other side, Kate spent 20 years working as a journalist, including for BBC Radio 4, Radio Leeds and Calendar.
Since then, she has taught journalism at the University of Sheffield, run more than 100 PR masterclasses for Business Link and become an expert on crisis communications. She is an associate trainer at the Cabinet Office-run Emergency Planning College, where she lectures mainly on using social media in a civil emergency. She is also a trainer for the Chartered Institute of PR.
Kate also oversees the day-to-day running of award-winning Capital B Media, which offers services in PR and media training, and has a range of clients including local businesses, local authorities, health trusts, fire and police services, and two national charities. Capital B Media’s headquarters are at Bullhouse Mill, near Penistone, with a base at the Media Centre in Huddersfield.
Kate’s workshop ‘Promoting your business for free’ will take place at 10am on October 3 in Conference Room 2 at Unity Hall. More information at https://
