Birdwell Wheelers Trevor Mayne and Paul Heggie rode in the CTT (Cycling Time Trials) National 50 Mile Championship on the A46 at Seagrave in Leicestershire last Saturday.
On a cold but sunny day, with the aid of a tailwind and a mainly downhill outward leg, riders sped to the turn at Farndon and then battled their way back uphill into the wind.
Mayne recorded a time of 1h 53m 53s which placed him 3rd in the 55 – 59 year old group while Heggie’s time of 2h 13m 35s placed him 2nd in the 65 – 69 year old group. Their times were good enough to set new club records for the distance at 55 and 65 years old respectively.
Also on Saturday Wheelers John Woodhouse and Steve Myatt rode the 103km Beast of Bolsover Audax climbing over 5000 feet on the route. Both finished well within the allotted time.
Birdwell Wheelers club run on Sunday saw Chris Jenkins, Dave Hudson, Tony Lodge, Steve Myatt, Philip Stewart Adams, Robert Parkes and two guest riders ride out to spectate the Stocksbridge Hill Climb up Pea Royd Lane then on to the Windmill Coffee Shop at Royd Moor.
This Sunday’s club run leaves Brewers Fayre roundabout at Wombwell at 9:15 and heads out on a 65 mile route to spectate at the annual Monsal Hill Climb. Visitors are welcome.
