Touching family show at The Civic focuses on disability

A touching new family show will be at The Civic this Sunday exploring themes of disability.

As the story starts, a young boy waits for the birth of his baby sister. He can’t wait to tell her all about the swifts which nest not far from the top window of their pointy house. It’s nearly time; she’s nearly here.

Perfect is the story of a young boy meeting his disabled sister for the first time. Combining dynamic physical theatre with stunning animated projections and an original soundscore, Tessa Bide Productions gently unpacks this challenging theme in an accessible way for young audiences.

Originally a Graffeg published picture book, Perfect is a remarkable story of anticipation and disappointment, acceptance and love, and the power of nature in all our lives.

“Moving, gentle and thoughtful: Perfect is sophisticated and sensitive in its storytelling, exquisite in its design and, best of all, really trusts its young audience.” Children’s Theatre Reviews

Adapted for the stage by award-winning children’s theatre specialists Tessa Bide Productions, the story is based on Author Nicola Davies and Illustrator Cathy Fisher’s book Perfect. Springing from the pages to the stage, it is an unforgettable introduction to theatre for families.

Following previous sell-out and critically acclaimed shows A Strange New Space, Arnold’s Big Adventure (“An experience like no other. I cannot recommend highly enough!Audience Review) and The Tap Dancing Mermaid, Perfect will tour nationally and internationally throughout 2018 & 2019.

“A very special show not to be missed.” Primary Times (on ‘A Strange New Space’ – winner of the Primary Times’ Children’s Choice Award at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017)

Perfect is part of a fantastic programme of children’s theatre at The Civic, with more fun weekend performances coming up at great prices to keep families smiling.

Perfect is at The Civic, Barnsley on Sunday 7 October at 2:30pm
