Your chance to ‘light up a life’

Barnsley Hospice is inviting people to dedicate a light in memory of a loved one, or in honour of a friend or relative, at one of three special services.

The Light Up a Life services will be held at the hospice and at St Mary’s Church in December, with the lights hung on Christmas trees at the two locations and the names recorded in a Book of Blessings. The lights will shine until the Twelfth Night.

Bev Hewitt, in-patient unit manager at Barnsley Hospice (pictured) said: “Light up a Life is a poignant and beautiful way to honour and celebrate the life of a loved one and we know that it offers comfort to a lot of families.

“There’s something incredibly special about the moment that the tree lights up; it’s really quite magnificent and means a lot to everyone who attends.”

There will be two religious services at St Mary’s Church, Barnsley, on Sunday December 2 at 3.30pm and 7.00pm. There will also be a non-religious service at Barnsley Hospice on Thursday December 6 at 7.00pm.

Last year Light Up a Life raised more than £26,000, with more than 750 lights on the Christmas trees. This year the appeal is sponsored by Dodworth-based Booker Commercial estate agency, and for the first time, the Book of Blessings will be available to view online.
