Barnsley Premier Leisure shortlisted for prestigious Swim England award

Barnsley Premier Leisure is celebrating after being shortlisted as one of the top two for a national award.
BPL has made it to the final stage of the Swim England Awards for the second year running. This year they have been shortlisted in the Facility Operator of the Year – up to ten sites category. The awards recognise outstanding work in the aquatics industry.
The company operates pool facilities within both Barnsley and Bassetlaw, placing particular focus on creating community groups such as an MS specific swim group to increase participation in aquatics activities.
BPL Bassetlaw contracts manager Glyn Davies said the recognition is inspirational for the company and the staff. He said: “Last year we entered for the first time because we felt we had put a great deal into developing our aquatics offering, with the new Bassetlaw Swim Squad and the Barnsley Swimming Club moving over to BPL as great examples.”
“It was the culmination of a couple of years of really hard work and we were really pleased to take home the award.
“That work has continued to reap success this year, with things like national medallists emerging from our Bassetlaw swimmers and new installations like the new pools at the Barnsley Metrodome.
“We are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted to the top two and that feels like a great achievement in itself. That comes down to the whole company ethos, which is growing participation.”
This year’s awards will be presented on Saturday, November 10, at the Great Hall, University of Birmingham.
Swim England CEO Jane Nickerson said: “We had some wonderful nominations for our 2018 National Awards. I’m looking forward to hearing all the inspiring stories representing the dedication of volunteers, coaches, teachers, participants, athletes and aquatic professionals.”
