Barnsley have signed a highly-rated 21-year-old central defender from Danish Superliga side AC Horsens.
Six feet five inches tall, Mads Juel Andersen has been described as ‘having a calm head on young shoulders’, and is noted for his ability to play the ball out from the back.
Those who have seen him in training have been highly impressed by the youngster, who has joined the Reds on a four-year contract, with the option of a further year, for an undisclosed free.
Born in Albertslund, Denmark, he is quoted on the Oakwell Club’s website as saying: “I think it is the right step for me. It is a good step in a good division. English football is physical and has lots of duels, which I love.”
Co-chairman Paul Conway enthused: “Mads represents an excellent signing. He was one of top priority targets. He is a defender who reflects our strategy – performing well at a young age and showing a keen attitude to develop and learn, while growing with the club.
“It is another example of our long-term commitment to young talent, and we have a firm belief that Mads will continue Barnsley’s great image of developing strong defenders, such as John Stones. We are really happy to have him on board.”
