Reds go nap in first pre-season friendly

Newly-promoted Barnsley made a flying start in their first pre-season friendly in preparation for the Championship campaign with a convincing 5-0 away victory over Stalybridge Celtic.

Alex Mowatt opened their account after good inter-play between Mamadou Thiam and Cameron McGeehan; a Cauley Woodrow brace – one from the penalty spot after Jordan Williams had been brought down, the other powering in off the bar – made it 3-0 and Jordan Green rocketed home a fourth goal just before the break.

It was all change after the interval, with a number of Academy players and seven new signings making their debuts as Callum Styles completed the nap hand from a George Miller cross.
