Scargill survives crash delay to finish third in LVRC event

Last Sunday Birdwell Wheeler Dave Scargill was well to the fore over seven laps of a six-mile circuit in the LVRC Geoff Armstrong Memorial Road Race near Newark, and, despite being held up late on by a crash in the bunch, still came third in his age category.

On the same day Trevor Mayne and Paul Heggie both had to retire from their respective races due to a puncture and equipment issues respectively.

Club President Christine Minto rode a 30-mile loop following the progress of the National 100 mile time trial at Boroughbridge.

The previous Wednesday, Wheeler Trevor Mayne rode in the Barnsley RC 10 mile time trial at Park Springs. Despite riding his commuting bike he finished in 23m 50s which was good enough for 9th place out of 23 finishers.

On the club run last Sunday Dave Hudson, Philip Adams and Chris Jenkins rode an 80 mile loop with 3000 feet of climbing to the windmill at Tuxford.

This Sunday’s club run leaves Brewers Fayre roundabout Wombwell at 9 am. Visitors are welcome. Destination to be decided.

The club’s monthly meeting is on Friday 12th July at Birdwell Community Centre Rockingham Street Birdwell at 7.30pm and prospective members are welcome to attend.
