Birdwell Wheeler Dave Scargill just missed out on a podium finish in his age group at the LVRC Tour of the Wolds Road Race near Great Limber in Lincolnshire on Sunday.
He was well to the fore over the 4 laps of the 10 mile circuit and was just edged out into fourth place in the sprint finish.
Trevor Mayne rode the same course over five laps. He attacked twice in the first seven miles and the second time was able to establish a break with one other rider. After 20 miles seven other riders joined the pair and, as the pace increased, the Birdwell rider lost contact with 10 miles to go, eventually finishing 15th in his age group.
The previous Wednesday, Trevor Mayne and Paul Heggie rode in the Barnsley RC 10 mile time trial at Park Springs. Mayne finished second to Barnsley RC’s Darren Gough, in 22m 41s, while Heggie, riding his road bike, clocked 27m 44s.
Sunday saw two groups out. Christine Minto, Tina Oakes, Diane Barron, Sally Salter, James Garner and Rodger Holmes rode a 35 mile loop to Askern, while Robert Parkes, Phillip Stewart Adams, Roger Bacon, Marc Peasgood and Dave Hudson headed out via Garforth, where Bacon and Peasegood turned for home and the remaining three completed a 100 mile loop to Knaresborough and back.
This Sunday’s club run to Hope in the Peaks leaves Brewers Fayre roundabout Wombwell at 9 am. Visitors are welcome.
